Child Kundli: what a baby's birth chart shows
A child's Kundli is the same birth chart read for different questions: the nakshatra that names the child, temperament, learning style, health and the years ahead.
The chart is computed from the child's date, time and place of birth exactly as an adult's is. What changes is what you look at. For a child the Moon nakshatra comes first — it gives the traditional naming letters — then the 5th house for learning, the 2nd for speech and family, and the 6th for health.
Nothing in the chart fixes a child's future. It describes tendencies the tradition associates with those placements; how a child actually grows depends far more on family, school, health and the child's own choices.
What a child Kundli includes
Six things are worth reading when the chart belongs to a child:
- Nakshatra and pada — the birth star, and the source of the namkaran (naming) letters.
- Rashi (Moon sign) — the emotional temperament the tradition assigns.
- Lagna — outward nature and how the child meets the world; this one needs a birth time.
- 5th house with Mercury and Jupiter — learning style, curiosity and education themes.
- 2nd house — speech, and the family environment the child grows up in.
- Current Dasha — the planetary period running now, read as a phase, not a forecast.
Nakshatra naming letters (namakshar)
Traditional naming uses the pada of the Moon's nakshatra at birth. Each nakshatra has four padas, and each pada has a starting syllable. This is the standard north-Indian list; regional lists vary slightly, so confirm the final letter with the pandit who performs the namkaran.

Child Kundli and education
The 5th house and its lord, Mercury (learning and communication), Jupiter (understanding and teachers) and the 4th house (the schooling environment) are traditionally read together. The Dasha decides when a particular phase is active, which is why the same chart reads differently at 6, 12 and 18.
That is genuinely useful for two things: choosing the kind of explanation a child responds to, and noticing when a phase is likely to be bumpy so you can plan around it. It is not useful as a school admission, a locked career, or a reason to label a child.
What to avoid when reading a child's chart
- Do not treat a single placement as a personality verdict — especially not in front of the child.
- Do not skip the birth time if you have it: the Lagna and the pada both depend on it.
- Do not let a dosha (Mangal, Kaal Sarp) become a fear story for the family; they are read with cancellations and context.
- Do not use the chart to fix a stream or career. Use it to prepare, not to predetermine.
How to get your child's free Kundli
Enter the child's birth date, time and place on Jyotish. The chart — Lagna, Rashi, Nakshatra and current Dasha — is free and needs no sign-up.
If you want the longer read, the Child Report covers the naming nakshatra, learning and health themes and the coming Dasha periods in more depth. Otherwise ask Arya directly in chat: 'what does my child's nakshatra say about naming?' works well as a first question.
Frequently Asked Questions
At what age can a child's Kundli be made?
Any time from birth. The nakshatra and naming letters are traditionally used for the namkaran ceremony, usually within the first 10 to 12 days.
Do I need the exact birth time for a child's Kundli?
For the Lagna, the pada and therefore the naming letters, yes — a few hours can change the pada. Rashi and the broader nakshatra are more stable. Hospital records are the best source.
What are namakshar letters?
Syllables assigned to the four padas of each of the 27 nakshatras, used as the starting sound of a traditional name. Regional lists vary slightly.
Can a baby's Kundli predict health or future?
It shows themes the tradition associates with placements and timing. It is not a diagnosis and not a fixed outcome — treat any health question as medical first.
Is the child Kundli free?
The chart is free and needs no sign-up. The detailed Child Report is a paid one-time download.
